Therapy for men and fathers
For men carrying a lot, and wanting more from their lives
You may be carrying significant responsibility while struggling with anxiety, recurring conflict, emotional distance, or a life that feels less satisfying than you hoped. You may be navigating divorce or trying to respond differently as a partner or father. You may also be doing well and want to make more deliberate choices about what comes next.
What we work on
I work with men who want to understand themselves more fully and change the patterns that affect their relationships, decisions and sense of direction. We look closely at what happens under pressure, how you respond to difficult emotions, and what makes important changes hard to sustain.
Our work can also support ambition. That includes developing your strengths, pursuing work you care about, strengthening your relationships, and becoming more present in the life you are building.
- Stress and pressure at work that follow you home
- Anxiety, low mood and harsh self-criticism
- Anger or reactivity with a partner or children
- Recurring arguments, or distance that has become normal
- Separation, divorce and co-parenting
- Becoming the father you want to be
- Success that feels less satisfying than expected
- Big decisions about career, relationships and what comes next
How sessions work
Sessions are conversations with direction. I will tell you what I notice, including when something seems to be getting in your way, and we decide together what to do about it.
Seeing the pattern
We trace what happens in the moments that matter, such as the argument that repeats, the shutdown under criticism, or the decision you keep postponing, and what drives it.
Handling the moment
DBT offers concrete skills for regulating strong emotions, tolerating distress and communicating clearly. We practice them on your actual situations.
Building what you want
We keep your goals in view, whether that is a closer marriage, steadier parenting, a career move or simply enjoying your life more, and we notice what is changing.
Fatherhood and divorce
Many of the men I see are fathers, and many are going through or have been through a separation. Therapy can be a place to think clearly while emotions run high, to respond to your children and their other parent in ways you will stand behind later, and to rebuild a life that feels like yours.
My patient in this work is you. If your child also needs support, I can help you think through the right fit, which is usually a different clinician than the one treating a parent.
What working with me is like
A lot of men are wary of therapy that feels vague. I aim to be clear and direct, to explain my thinking, and to connect what we talk about to what you are actually dealing with each week. My training in DBT and my years leading clinical training shape that.
